The Kikuyu were the most active tribe during the fight for Kenya’s independence. The famous Mau Mau rebellion was mainly composed of Kikuyus. The Mau Mau were lead by Dedan Kimathi who was credited for helping organize resistance which led to defeat of the colonial government. Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's first president, was a Kikuyu, giving the tribe a major boost politically and economically.


The Kikuyu are Bantu and actually came into Kenya during the famous Bantu migration. After settling down, the Kikuyu people spread rapidly throughout the Central Province and Kenya. They are considered distant relatives of several people groups like the Meru, the Embu and the Chuka. The Kikuyu tribe is believed to have been founded by a man named Gikuyu and his wife mumbi. Kikuyu history says Ngai (God) took Gikuyu to the top of Kirinyaga and told him to stay and build his home there. He was also given his wife, Mumbi. Together, Mumbi and Gikuyu had nine daughters. Achera, Agachiku, Airimu, Ambui, Angare, Anjiru, Angui, Aithaga, and Aitherandu. These daughters later founded the nine Kikuyu clans. Gikuyu and Mumbi are therefore regarded as the Adam and Eve of the Kikuyus.


Kikuyus main economic activity is Agriculture. They engage in both small scale and large scale farming. Cash crops and horticultural produce is their main farming activity. They grow coffee tea, maize, beans, bananas, sugarcane, yams, millet, and a variety of other vegetables. They also raise cattle, sheep, and goats. They use the hides from the cattle to make bedding, sandals, and carrying straps and they raise the goats and sheep to use for religious sacrifices and purification.

East Africa’s growing importance in deepwater exploration and production could receive a further boost with oil exploration firms set to drill Kenya’s first deepwater oil well in August. Deepwater activity in the region has grown over the past few years with the discovery of massive gas fields in the Offshore area 1 of Mozambique.

However, with companies set to strike oil in offshore Kenya, exploration could pick up further as companies discover oil prospects. This could result in a major upside for Transocean, the world’s largest offshore drilling company.

Despite several major discoveries of natural gas in offshore East Africa, explorers are still cautious because of the lack of any major oil find. Producers prefer oil discoveries as crude oil can easily be processed and sold in the international markets. Natural gas on the other hand requires costly facilities to convert it into LNG that can be later sold to international markets. If the attempt to drill a crude oil well in Kenya is a success, it could result in a significant increase in exploration activity in the region. Industry experts also suggest that offshore oil fields could be found in other countries such as Mozambique and Madagascar. Exploration efforts are also on in Tanzania, Ghana and Uganda.

According to its April fleet status report, it has one of its ultra deepwater rigs contracted to drill in Mozambique. The company also has other rigs operating in African countries such as Angola, Nigeria and Ghana. Successful discovery of oil in Eastern Africa could result in companies boosting their efforts in the region, resulting in additional contracts for Transocean. This can boost Transocean’s utilization rates as well as its daily revenues as high specification rigs required for deepwater drilling yield higher daily revenues.

This progressed, within a week, to a constantly half-rigid penis, day and night.’ Normally when a man’s penis becomes erect, blood rushes in through the arteries and later leaves through the veins. However when a nonischemic priapism occurs , blood continues to fill the penis faster than it can leave which results in pressure remaining constant and the penis permanently erect. Nonischemic priapism takes its name from the Roman deity Priapus who was a rustic fertility god and protector of livestock, gardens and male genitalia. He is seen depicted with an absurdly oversized, permanent erection. For the unnamed Iranian man, researchers stated that the problem resolves itself naturally 62 per cent of the time. But if it doesn’t men have the option of selective arterial embolism which is a procedure that blocks the offending artery. In the case of the unfortunate young man he apparently chose to have a shunt implanted to drain the excess blood. According to researchers: ‘Predictably, the procedure was unsuccessful,’ the authors wrote. But happily the man was left with no lasting damage. They stated: ‘Because of the painless nature of erections, moderately good preservation of erectile function during intercourses, and disappointment with former surgery, the patient has declined to undergo further therapies, and lives with his condition. The patient has no regrets, despite his permanent erection. Nevertheless, the authors warned against others considering the same. Based on our unique case, we discourage penile tattooing.’
